Summary

When the boy was very small, he saw a large ship without light and sound. One night the ship passed by his village. The ship appeared and disappeared according to the lighthouse. The next day the boy thought that it was not the ship but his dream. The boy was growing day by day. The next March the boy could see the ship in the sea. This time, he was sure that it was not a dream but reality. He ran to tell his mother. She did not believe it. She thought that her son's mind was disordered. She asked a boatman to look after the boy. The boatman did not see the ship, accept the fish. The boy's mother sat on a chair which she had bought in the town and thought of her husband. Then she died. In the course of time, other four women also died when they sat on the chair.    

The boy became orphan. Many people beat him when he talked about the ship. They said that the boy was an evil widow's son. The boy began to steal for bread and butter. One day he stole a boat and waited for the ghost ship in the channel. He saw the ship which was very large. There was no light as there was no life. The ship disappeared when it got light. The compass of the ship was disordered. He suddenly lit the light. The light led the ship to a correct direction. Now he could lead the ship. The light of the ship made the village bright. It was higher than church and larger than village.           

It took time, energy, courage and patience for the narrator of this story to be an assertive young man. Finally he proved himself stronger and matured. Isolation and anger (ikha) made him an assertive (able) young man from an ordinary boy.

So, he repeated this phrase "Now they're going to see who I am" which symbolizes his strength, confidence and maturity.

In the story the boy had to prove who he was among the villagers to justify his existence.  Secondly, in the beginning he was not matured and people didn't believe him. He had to do something to win the belief of other people. Thirdly, he was getting matured and he could do something. That's why he had to prove who he was.

The boy's mother was a widow. When, the boy tried to convince his mother about the arrival of the ship. She became sad for many weeks. Then she went to city to get a comfortable chair where she could sit and think about her husband. When she came from the city with a chair and sat on it thinking of her mental disordered son and dead husband. Then she became excited (thrilled, eager) and died. The chair was so frightful that other four women also died when they sat on it.

It was larger than the whole village and much taller than the steeple. It was a ship that appears and disappears according to the lights. There was something wrong with the compass because it was directed towards the stony mountain, which caused collide and burst.

He has become stronger because of he is strong feeling, rage and isolation. He was beaten and hated. He makes the strong decision. It shows that he has become mature. He is able to know everything. He becomes mentally strong. He can control his imagination. He is not afraid of any miracle, and imaginary thing and object. His experience makes him know the real world. His ability and maturity increases. He is not confused by emotion.
